Loud and Clear by Folkstar

Here’s a little bit about the album:

Folkstar’s new album Loud and Clear is an intensely ambitious 16-track work of art. Folkstar’s Kim Dicso and Sue Cag speak their minds on this album, with songs covering life and death, suicide and dreams, the flaws of our society and the beauty of our world.

Folkstar tackles teen bullying in the song “It Gets Better” (inspired by the It Gets Better Project). They scrutinize our manufactured lives in “Fabrication” and “Everybody Knows” and expose animal exploitation in “Human” and the jazzy number “Abolitionists.” Crowd favorite “Could You Be” is an anthem about love and dreams, as is “Dream Thieves.” Songs exploring death include “Final Curtain” and “New Eyes,” which delve into the emotional complexities of losing someone. Of course there are songs about love as well, such as “Trampoline” and “Ice Queen,” reminiscent of Folkstar’s debut album Emotional Bootcamp. Finally, the title track “Loud and Clear” tells the story of Cag’s hearing loss and talks about a “wake up call,” a common theme throughout the album.

Folkstar fearlessly creates music of substance. Although formed in North Carolina and labeled folk-rock, their music features a variety of influences including west coast rock, indie, blues, jazz, and of course, acoustic singer-songwriter folk and intense guitar laden rock ‘n’ roll.

KFR Press Release – August 7th, 2013

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Karmic Fury Records, an independent label based in Wilmington, NC, would like to announce the pending release of Loud and Clear, the sophomore album by folk-rock group Folkstar. The album will appear in select record stores and download sites on August 20, 2013, with a release party to follow on October 5 at Gravity Records in Wilmington.

Folkstar, a musical collaboration formed by Kim Dicso and Sue Cag in 2011, offers a unique blend of acoustic folk and rock-infused guitar. Their first release, 2012’s Emotional Bootcamp, received broad-based acclaim from critics of independent music as well as nationwide radio play. Loud and Clear expands their sound and the scope of their songwriting. With 13 songs and three bonus tracks, the album addresses a variety of issues. “Final Curtain” and “New Eyes” explore themes of death and loss, while “It Gets Better” directly addresses teen suicide and LGBT issues. “Human” and “Abolitionists” are calls for animal rights and humanitarianism. The first single and title track deals with Cag’s experiences with hearing loss and the effect it had on her music.

A number of other regional artists make guest appearances on the album. Dylan Linehan plays piano on “Dream Thieves” and “Afterglow,” Nic Martinez adds bass to “Natural High,” and Preston Luce plays cello on “Afterglow.” Leslie Wiegle provides additional vocals throughout the album.

A release party will be held at Gravity Records in Wilmington, NC on October 5, 2013, including several live performances and a cash bar.

In addition to its retail release, the album will be available for download from iTunes, Amazon, CD Baby, and all other major online retailers.
